BACKING DEVELOPMENTOctober 5th, 2009
TaylorMade-adidas and Ashworth Golf South Africa has, for a long time now, been at the forefront of supporting golf development through the donation of equipment to various programmes around the country. Already more than R3 million worth of equipment, balls, caps and shoes have found their way to those who would not normally be able to afford it.
Recently staff from TaylorMade South Africa were on hand at the South African Development Board-endorsed development programme at Devonvale Golf Club in Stellenbosch to hand over new equipment to the golfers who fall under this division.
The programme there is run by keen golfer and school teacher Quinton Stone from Rietenbosch Primary School. Devonvale has made their course available to the youngsters on a weekly basis to learn the basics of golf, as well as the valuable life-skills that the game of golf teaches. A year into the project, it has grown to include eight other schools in the area. “Maybe there’s a Tiger Woods here, maybe not. Even if they’re not great golfers, this will get them to know the golfing industry and perhaps one day work in it,” explained Charles Glesser, Golf Director at Devonvale.
Aaron Russell, marketing assistant at TaylorMade Golf South Africa added, “We realized that there’s a need to give back to the community and what better way than to help kids. We’re happy and excited to be involved with this excellent programme.”
Through its unrivalled support of development programmes and junior golf throughout South Africa, TaylorMade adidas and Ashworth Golf continues to make a difference in the growth and sustainability of the game in South Africa.
