TWO FROM THREE FOR ROBERTS
November 5th, 2009

With scores of 66, 66 over the weekend there is no doubt that Loren Roberts is the deserving champion of the Charles Schwab Cup for 2009 over John Cook by 319 points, collecting the trophy as well as the winner’s cheque of $1 million.

With six birdies in his final 18 holes at the Charles Schwab Cup Championships, this was good enough for Roberts to jump from tied 15th to tied 6th overall for the tournament and secure his win as the 2009 Champion. This is his second win of the Charles Schwab Cup in three years, making him only the fourth player to do so since the tournaments inauguration in 1990.

“All I can say really about this week is, for me, there was two tournaments. I played two totally different golf tournaments in one week. The first two days I really didn't hit it very good and I really didn't putt well. I was the last one on the range Friday. Like I said, the last 20 or 30 balls I found something and I put it to -- it worked this weekend. It totally changed my outlook and my attitude about things.”

It looks like Roberts will be giving part of his earnings towards a worthy cause, helping in growing the game of golf in the Sacramento area in California, USA.
“Well, yeah. There were three junior players out here yesterday. I actually saw them earlier in the week, but they were out yesterday walking you around. They were with one of the fathers of one of the young men.
I got to talking to their dad, and I guess they go to school in Sacramento. That particular school district, I think there's nine high schools in the district that they have there. They're cutting boys and girl's golf. Completely dropping it really. You know, they were talking about it, because they don't spend that much money. I think $35,000 covers nine schools' golf for the whole year for them with the budget cuts here in the state.
So I just got to thinking about it. I said, Gosh, it just seems like that might be something that maybe, you know, I could be involved in or have a part in. That's what the Schwab Cup allows us to do. I know all the players that have been involved with the Schwab and won the Schwab over the years have donated their money or become involved with helping things like that.”

Roberts, who uses TaylorMade hardware, will be looking at defending this title again next year, with the finals being played at Harding Park Golf Course, San Francisco, home of the 2009 Presidents Cup where the American’s triumphed over the International Team led by Greg Norman 19.5-14.5.
