PLAYGROUND BATTLESSeptember 4th, 2009In South Africa, we are prohibited from engaging in comparative advertising, so sometimes we are left to making statements about the “opposition” without actually mentioning their names. But in the USA, it’s a whole different ballgame, so to speak.
Recently, one of TaylorMade’s rivals made the claim that their driver was longer than the R9 and put together a whole lot of impressive statistics to back up this claim. What they did not count on was the techno whizzkids at TaylorMade doing an indepth study into how they came to their conclusions.
In a widely publicised exposé, TaylorMade highlighted how apples were not compared with apples in the comparison … First of all, they used their two-piece distance ball for their driver, while using TaylorMade’s softer three-piece ball for the test with the Burner Driver. Then they used unrealistic swing speeds and launch angles to ensure that their ball went further. Which just goes to show, when you have equipment that is genuinely good, there really is no need to talk about the opposition. And TaylorMade’s consistent ranking as the No 1 driver on Tours around the world simply underlines the point. But then, you probably already knew that!
