Paula Creamer Wins Tournament of Champions For 2nd LPGA Title of the Year
November 11th, 2007
TaylorMade-adidas Golf Tour Staff professional Paula Creamer recorded her fourth career victory and second wire-to-wire victory of the season at The Mitchell Company LPGA Tournament of Champions in Mobile, Alabama.
After posting a 20-under-par (67-65-68-68=268), Creamer finished eight strokes better than the rest of the field, running away with the convincing victory one shot off the tournament record. Getting off to a great start, Creamer fired seven straight birdies on Thursday to close the first round with a 67 and shot a 65 Friday to open a 5-stroke lead heading into the weekend. Remaining sub-70 the rest of the way, Creamer nailed 49 out of 56 fairways (87.5%) and relied heavily on her Rossa Suzuka CGB putter with AGSI+ Technology to also go 62 straight holes without a bogey — the largest streak on the LPGA Tour this season.
"I played good this week and gave myself a lot of chances," said Creamer. "I stayed really confident with myself, and I believed I could do it. I feel really confident, and I would love to take this momentum into next week with one left."
Creamer heads into next week's season-ending ADT Championship at Trump International Golf Club as one of only three players this season with multiple wins. The victory Sunday was her second this season after taking the SBS Open at Turtle Bay in Hawaii earlier this year, marking the 12th time in the 2007 LPGA season that a TaylorMade driver was used to win a tournament.
